Above: The sages: White Sage, Black Sage, and Purple Sage, are members of the mint family. Aromatic oils prevent animals from eating their leaves. All three are drought deciduous shrub species typical of the Coastal Sage Scrub plant community. Sage teas are thought to quiet the nerves and expel worms. Photo by Morgan Ball.
