9. Facilities and Maintenance (“Maint”)

Facilities and Maintenance Goal: Maintain the property and all facilities in a safe, user-friendly, ecologically sound, and efficient manner.

Whatever modest facilities are eventually assembled to carry out day-to-day and long-term functions on San Marcos Foothills must be carefully planned and located.

Action Opportunity: Construct wheel-chair accessible trail to a lookout point on the West Mesa.

Policy Maint-9.1: Carefully locate future on site improvements (for maintenance, storage, office and other infrastructure facilities) to minimize scenic and ecological impacts.

Policy Maint-9.2: Insofar as possible, remove and consolidate utility lines in or near sensitive habitats by coordinating with utility companies.

Policy Maint-9.3: Provide for maintenance of the property, including trails, weed eradication, fuel management, erosion control, litter pick up, safety, and other facilities maintenance, consistent with the goals and principles of this Plan.

Policy Maint-9.4: Consider providing a day time caretaker to monitor the property and its uses, make needed repairs, and assist visitors.
