Plants of the San Marcos Foothills Preserve

Epilobium brachycarpum (Annual fireweed)

Uncommon on the SMFP annual herb (except perhaps after fires) found in only one location down slope of the Spring near the Antone Road entrance. Appeared after extensive mustard removal. Blooms in late summer to fall.

Fruit dehiscing (splitting open) to reveal seeds with fluffy hairs attached (typical of other Epilobium species on the SMFP).

Close up of flower and fruit.

Typical size of the plant at down slope of the Spring.
